Summer Lane Lake β Weston Angling Association Guide
Summer Lane Lake is one of the most popular venues managed by Weston Angling Association (WAA), offering a fantastic mix of coarse and carp fishing in a welcoming, well-kept setting. Situated just outside Weston-super-Mare, this water is perfect for pleasure anglers, match anglers, and juniors alike.
The lake is divided into two distinct parts β the front lake and the back lake. While both hold a good head of fish, itβs the back lake that often draws the most attention, especially during WAAβs regular matches. With its uniform depths and a central island feature, the back lake has produced impressive match weights, regularly topping the 100lb mark.Venue Details at a Glance

Best Tactics for Summer Lane
Carp Fishing
Carp are the main attraction for many anglers at Summer Lane. Productive methods include:- PVA Bag Rigs β Using small PVA bags packed with pellets alongside a bright, high-visibility boilie has proven very effective.
- Pellet Approach β Feeding micro pellets little and often draws carp into the swim.
Targeting features such as the back lakeβs island or the margins late in the day can often produce bonus fish.
Coarse Fishing
For those who enjoy pole or float fishing, Summer Lane offers plenty of action with silver fish and tench. Popular methods include:
- Pole Fishing β Combine groundbait with chopped worm and maggots, or micro pellets with sweetcorn. This is a reliable tactic for mixed bags of bream, roach, and tench.
- Float Fishing in the Margins β Especially productive in the warmer months when fish patrol close in.
- Feeder Fishing β Casting towards the island or open water with groundbait feeders can bring consistent bites.
Accessibility and Facilities
The venue is designed to be inclusive, with two wheelchair-friendly pegs making it easier for disabled anglers to enjoy the water. With 20 pegs in total, thereβs enough room for pleasure anglers and matches alike without the lake feeling overcrowded.
Match Fishing at Summer Lane
WAA hosts many of its club matches on the back lake at Summer Lane. The combination of fair pegging, consistent depths, and reliable stocks means the venue regularly produces tight competitions. Weights over 100lb are not uncommon, making it one of the more exciting match waters in the region.
If youβre interested in competitive fishing, joining WAA gives you the chance to take part in these events and test your skills against local anglers.Rules and Restrictions
To maintain fish welfare and ensure fair use of the venue, anglers should note:
- No Pike Fishing
- No Lure Fishing
- Barbless hooks only (recommended)
- Follow WAA club rules at all times
Always check the latest club guidelines before fishing.
