Mendip Spring – Weston Angling Association Guide

Mendip Spring is the newest addition to the Weston Angling Association waters. With several patches of lily pads providing cover and features to fish to, it has quickly become a favourite among members. While the full stock content is still being discovered, anglers can expect busy sessions with plenty of bites, and weights of 80lb+ have already been recorded.

⚠️ WARNING – GOLF COURSE IN OPERATION ⚠️

    Best Tactics

    Carp Fishing

    • Method Feeder with Micros – Casting tight to lily pads or open water is highly productive.
    • Margin Work – Carp patrol the lilies and edges, especially in warmer weather.

    Coarse & Match Fishing

    • Pole Fishing – Pole rigs fished over groundbait with worm, maggots, or micro pellets are effective.
    • Feeder Fishing – Small cage feeders with groundbait can bring in bream and crucians.
    • Float Fishing – Fishing just off the lilies or in the margins works well for roach, rudd, and perch.

Recommended Tackle:

For Carp Angling

  • Rods & Reels: 10–11ft carp or method feeder rods, 2–2.5lb test curve with 6–10lb mainline
  • End Tackle: Method feeder setups with short hooklengths (4–6 inches), size 10–12 barbless hooks
  • Other Gear: 36–42” landing net, unhooking mat, light pod or banksticks

For Coarse & Match Fishing

  • Poles: 9–13m poles with elastics 6–12 for silvers and bonus fish
  • Float Rods: 12–13ft waggler rod, 3–4lb mainline, size 16–20 hooks for roach and rudd
  • Feeders: Light to medium feeder rods, 9–11ft with 4–6lb mainline
